Soundcloud UI Redesign

Refreshing the soundcloud UI/UX for clarity and readability

Soundcloud's UI is outdated. Very outdated. In this design study, I am refreshing the UI to make things more streamlined. My goal was to reduce aimless scrolling on the home page, and reintroduce more functionality on the artist page for the mobile layout- as the artist page for desktop and mobile do have a lot in common. Only two pages were redesigned; the home page, and the artist page, in mobile and desktop formats.

Considerations and Challenges

I took care to consider responsive design in the layout, and wanted the genre tiles to look good on both mobile and desktop layout. However, when it came to the artist page, I struggled a lot on the mobile layout to add back some functionality that the desktop page has- that the current mobile layout does not have. I think I was somewhat successful here, but some functionality should realistically be removed- as now it has become too cluttered.

The Changes

Soundcloud's current UI is disorganized. There is too much going on, and not a strong sense of organization to the desktop version of the website. The mobile app for soundcloud almost has the opposite problem. It looks very streamlined and nice, but almost too bare- many of the functions of the desktop app are missing, with no clear indication of where they might be. The desktop version, and mobile version aren't cohesive. In my redesign, I attempt to solve that problem by simplifying the desktop UI, and adding some functionality to the mobile app UI.
